Fire Destroys Building in Hopkinton
HOPKINTON, Iowa - A fire completely destroyed a building at Bacon Recycling in Hopkinton early Saturday morning. Fire Chief Craig Wilson said it started around 5 o'clock and it was fully involved when his crew arrived on scene.
Crews from Delhi and Monticello also responded. Wilson said there were about 60 firefighters on site.
The building was made of aluminum and had cardboard and plastic inside ready for recycling. Wilson said the heat of the fire caused the walls to collapse. Firefighters used a front-end loader to move around the remaining pieces of scrap metal to look for hot spots.
