CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Firefighters remained on the scene of a house fire for several hours Monday morning.
Officials first responded to the home at 315 23rd St. NE at 10:21 Sunday night.. As of 3:30 Monday morning, firefighters were still on the scene.
Battalion Chief Andy Olesen says 28 firefighters responded and put out flames inside walls, floors, and the roof. He says there was extensive fire, smoke and water damage to the house.
Olesen says no one was home at the time, but the Red Cross and Salvation Army helped two people that lived there find a place to spend the night.
The extreme cold slowed down the work on containing the blaze. Investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.
