41st Cedar Rapids Crop Walk
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The chilly weather didn't stop some people from walking to stop hunger earlier on this Sunday. The 5K walk helps to fight hunger by raising money for the Churches of Marion Pantry, Linn Community Food Bank and Green Square Meals.
With a possibility of funding cuts to food stamps, plus the government shutdown possibly limiting some nutrition services, this years Crop Walk is even more important.
"The churches maintain a commitment to feeding the hungry regardless of the ups and downs of the political situation and that's why the walk continues. There is still a need to feed the hungry," Crop Walk Treasurer Ellen Fisher said.
Last years Crop Walk raised about $25,000.
