INDEPENDENCE, Iowa -- A fake e-mail is circulating that claims an Iowa legislator is in England and needs money, police said Friday.

Independence police are investigating the e-mail that names State Rep. Gene Ficken, D-Independence. Officers spoke to Ficken, who is not in England.

Police said anyone who gets the e-mail should disregard it.

A similar e-mail scam in July targeted State Senator Bob Dvorsky, a Democrat from Coralville.
