'Gown Town' Event Provides Prom Dresses
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - With the snow and sludge, thoughts of prom season may seem months away -- but it's really only weeks away.
Of course, not everyone who wants a dress that is just right has the means to secure one.
That's why the radio station Z102.9 had listeners stop by last week and donate old prom dresses, shoes and accessories for today's event.
Gown Town - as it's called - had more than 700 dresses donated this year.
Young women could drop into Westdale Mall Saturday and get fitted for the perfect prom dress.
All dresses and accessories came absolutely free for the girls--and with so many dresses donated there were plenty of options for the spring.
"It's a princess dress. I want to be a princess my senior year so I'm like 'I have to get this one'," said Montana Madlon, a senior at Marion High School.
Local dry cleaner businesses volunteered to have the dresses cleaned for the event.
Z-102.9 says just about everyone who came to work the event were listeners who called in to volunteer.
