Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed in Jasper County
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Officials say the destructive emerald ash borer has been confirmed in central Iowa's Jasper County.
The state Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the latest infestation means nine counties have confirmed cases of the insect, which destroys the ash trees species over a period of years.
Officials say emerald ash borer was positively identified in a residential tree in Newton from a larva sample collected on March 20.
A statewide quarantine was issued in early February. It restricts the movement of hardwood firewood, ash logs, wood chips and ash tree nursery stock out of Iowa into non-quarantined areas of other states.
