Dyersville City Council Approves Annexation of Field of Dreams

DYERSVILLE, Iowa - The Dyersville City Council approved the annexation of the Field of Dreams property on Monday night.

Go the Distance Baseball wants to build The All-Star Ballpark Heaven. It would be a 38-million dollar complex with 24 baseball and softball diamonds on the Field of Dreams property. The annexation, which was passed by a 4 to 1 vote, includes 5 different property owners, one of which is the Field of Dreams.

"The annexation leads to the next step, which is rezoning of that property, you can't rezone property that is not in the city. We cannot develop ball fields there if it is not rezoned and the commercial rezoning is what is next." said Denise Stillman, Founder Go the Distance Baseball.

An attorney representing a group of Dyersville citizens concerned about the project, requested a referendum and petitioned the city to hold an election for the annexation plans.
