Dunkerton High School Officials Find Gun In Student's Backpack
DUNKERTON, Iowa - Dunkerton High School officials suspended a football player after finding a gun in his backpack.
On Friday, Aug. 30, a weapon was found in the bag of a high school football player upon arriving back at school. The teen was coming back from a football game. The bag was quickly turned over to authorities and a search began for the owner of the weapon. As of Tuesday, the student still hadn't been found.
The administrative team met with football players and families on Saturday to let everyone know the situation. School leaders do not believe Dunkerton students are in danger, but the district is taking some precautions to avoid a problem. Students will not be allowed outside for recess, Physical Education or any other activities. Per district policy, school doors will remain locked during the school day. The district will also provide extra supervision as students enter and exit our building and at activities and events. These policies will remain in effect until the student is found.
