Three Men Charged Following Home Invasion, Shooting
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Dubuque Police have charged three people involved in a home invasion that resulted in one person going to the hospital.
On Monday night, two men allegedly tried breaking into an apartment at the Ventura Ridge Apartments on 2759 Ventura Drive. Alfonso Faison told KCRG.com he was at the apartment at the time visiting a friend, Lyle Young. Faison said when one of the men tried opening the apartment with a crowbar, he fired shots.
The intruder, Tanner Ervolino, 28, was was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound. Ervolino was treated and immediately taken into custody at the Dubuque County Jail. He's charged with first degree burglary.
Another man who was present during the burglary, James Welbes Jr., 18, was arrested Tuesday on a probation violation warrant. He remains in the Dubuque County Jail. Faison said Welbes ran when he fired the gunshots.
Police searched Young's apartment after learning the incident may have been drug related. Officers recovered 30 grams of marijuana. Young was arrested Wednesday for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He has since been released from jail.
Faison who had a permit to carry a gun, admitted to using marijuana that night. His permit was suspended.
