Dubuque Police Spend Several Hours in Standoff

DUBUQUE, Iowa – One person is dead following a stand off with police in Dubuque.

Police tell KCRG.com that on Saturday evening, they had located a person with five arrest warrants at a residence in the 300 block of Kaufmann Avenue. When police attempted to arrest the suspect, he tried to flee but officers had blocked off all of the exits.

The suspect stayed in his home for several hours, refusing to surrender to authorities.

Shortly before midnight, The Dubuque Police Tactical Entry Team used tear gas to try and force the man to leave the residence. The suspect did not surrender following the use of the tear gas, The tear gas deployment did not lead to the surrender of the wanted man, and at about 12:55 a.m. the Tactical Entry Team made entry to the residence.

Authorities located the man inside the residence deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation will conduct an investigation.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
