Dubuque Man Charged with Selling Heroin
DUBUQUE, Iowa - A 50-year-old Dubuque man is accused of selling heroin near a Dubuque school and playground.
Alvin Stanley Briggs, Jr., has been charged with one count of distribution of heroin resulting in death and four counts of distribution of heroin near a school and a playground. The charges are contained in an Indictment unsealed Monday in the United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.
Investigators said Briggs sold Heroin in 2012 and 2013. He also sold it near Prescott Elementary School and Jackson Park in Dubuque. Investigators also said that someone died after Briggs sold them the drug.
Briggs faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 24 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison, a $9,000,000 fine, $500 in special assessments, and up to a lifetime term of supervised release.
Briggs appeared Monday in federal court in Cedar Rapids and was held without bond. Briggs's next appearance, for a detention hearing, is set for Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 4:30 p.m.
