DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A Dubuque man has been accused of trying to conspire with his teenage daughter to get his wife to take harmful pills.
A criminal complaint says 55-year-old Michael C. Schoonover asked his 17-year-old daughter to get "unknown pills" for him so he could secretly put them in a drink for his wife. He said he wanted to put the girl's mother in the hospital or "to sleep."
The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports the girl contacted an older sister and police. The teen gave her father an unmarked bottle of harmless pills and recorded their conversation for police.
Schoonover was arrested Tuesday morning. He faces a charge of solicitation to commit a felony. Court records do not list an attorney.
