Dubuque Launches Plow Tracking Website
By Katie Wiedemann, Reporter
DUBUQUE, Iowa - When the snow starts falling, people start making contingency plans. The city of Dubuque launched a website so residents can track where the plow trucks have been. The idea is to help drivers make smart decisions.
If crews are cleaning up during and after a big storm they say many people worry the plows will miss their street, so they call the Public Works Department. Directors say that is fine to do, but tracking the plows online could save you a phone call.
The Automated Vehicle Locator system is not new technology. It's just new that it's now open to the public. The city has been using it internally for 7 years.
Dubuque Streets Director John Klosterman said it's important to note the website does not give road condition reports. Klosterman said that's especially important to keep that in mind during a major storm . . . just because a plow passed your street doesn't necessarily mean that street is completely clear.
