DUBUQUE, Iowa - This year marks the 27th annual Independence Day celebration at A.Y. McDonald Park in Dubuque.
The Independence Day celebration will take place Tuesday, with the Dubuque Air Show beginning at 5:45 p.m. The fireworks display will follow at around 9:45 p.m.
With Tuesday's temperatures in the upper 90′s, authorities are urging the public for their cooperation with the event. The Dubuque Police Department is asking the public to not light their own fireworks under the dry conditions, as well as stay hydrated and be patient.
“Anytime we take that volume of motor vehicles and people cramming into such a small area, don’t expect to leave the second the fireworks are over," said Lt. Scott Baxter. "We delay traffic sometimes up to a half hour to get that pedestrian traffic to clear our. Again, safety being the top priority."
The Dubuque Police Department is also urging the public to arrive early to the event, as once parking lots become full on Kerper Boulevard, the street will be shut down.
