LA PORTE CITY, Iowa - A driver was taken to the hospital after he apparently lost control of his vehicle on slippery Dysart Road and plunged into a quarry.

The vehicle went down an embankment and landed in a flooded quarry near the intersection of Dysart and Quarry roads, west of La Porte City.

The driver got himself out of the vehicle, which was only partially submerged, and got out of the quarry as well. He showed up soaking wet at a nearby machine shop, where workers called 911 shortly after 11 a.m.

The driver was then taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The accident remains under investigation. La Porte City fire, ambulance and police responded to the scene, as well as Black Hawk County Sheriff's deputies.
