Driver Killed, Child Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Linn County Crash

CENTRAL CITY, Iowa - A 26-year-old woman died following a crash in Linn County early Saturday morning.

Officials say Brandon Lynn Schaul, 25, of Cedar Rapids, struck a red 2010 Dodge Caravan with his 2005 Chevy pick-up near the intersection of Highway 13 and Valley Farm Road at 12:46 a.m. Schaul was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the van, Rachel Hope Denny, 26, of Coggon, was pronounced dead at the scene. Denny's 2-year-old daughter, Izebella, was first transported to St. Lukes by Life Guard air ambulance. She was, then, moved to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She is in critical condition.

Charges are pending against Schaul. The crash is currently under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.

The Linn County Sherriff's Office was aided by Marion Police, Center Point Ambulance, Life Guard Air Ambulance, Central City Ambulance, Central City Fired Department and the Coggon Fire Department.
