Driver Convicted In Record-Setting 188 MPH Chase

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - A man charged in an interstate police chase that reached speeds of 188 mph was convicted in the case on Wednesday.

James Foldenauer was convicted of eluding a peace officer by a Pottawattamie County jury. Authorities said Foldenauer lead them on a motorcycle chase that reached 188 mph. on Interstate 29 on Aug. 5, 2009.

The jury reached the verdict after one hour of deliberations.

"This speed is believed to be a record for a public highway in the state of Iowa. The credit here goes to the Iowa State troopers and the Omaha police officers who were able to keep track of, and ultimately track down the suspect responsible for such a dangerous high-speed chase," said Tom Nelson, Assistant Pottawattamie County Attorney.

Officials said the case involved an Iowa State Patrol airplane, several state troopers and Omaha police.
