Downtown Waterloo Building Evacuated After Carbon Monoxide Leak

WATERLOO, Iowa - Firefighters evacuated a downtown office building after discovering high levels of carbon monoxide Tuesday afternoon.

Crews with MidAmerican Energy were at the First National Building at 607 Sycamore St. and phoned Waterloo Fire Rescue for assistance at about 3:30 p.m.

Battalion Chief Mike Junk said firefighters found high levels of odorless gas throughout the building.

Fire officials ventilated the structure with fans and directed occupants to leave.

No injuries were reported.
