DES MOINES, Iowa - Campbell's Concessions couldn't roll out their bacon wrapped confection fast enough for fair-goers at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Crews initially prepped 12,000 sticks of the pork-tacular treat expecting that to last them through most of the week.
"We went through that in about two and a half days," laughed Jessica Hobbs, one of the concession managers. Hobbs said they called in crews to quickly prepare more of the bacon wrapped corn dogs.
The herd of hungry patrons continued to surround the stand Sunday. Many said they specifically wanted to save the best for last. It might tickle your taste buds, but we all know the bacon wrapped corndog is not recommended by most health professionals. Few people said they were counting calories.
"I don't know how much is in it, and I don't care!" laughed one fair-goer waiting in line for her specialty dog.
Campbell's said they roped in at least 3,000 dollars a day on their signature dog. They don't know if they'll try to top the dog with something else next year. However, they say the popularity of the bacon wrapped dog means it will likely make another appearance at next year's fair.
