Distillery Makes First Iowan Single Malt Whiskey

By Ryan Jones

SWISHER, Iowa- Iowans will soon get to taste the first Iowa single malt whiskey.

Cedar Ridge Distillery announced today that it is releasing its first four barrels of Cedar Ridge Single Malt Whiskey to the public.

A single malt whiskey is traditionally made in Scotland and aged in bourbon barrels imported from the United States. It is then sold as 'scotch' here. Proprietor Jeff Quint said because they already make a bourbon whiskey, the single malt was the next step.

"What most people don’t realize is that nearly all Single Malt Scotch is aged in used Bourbon barrels that Scotland imports from the US– so it was natural for us to venture into this new product,” said Quint.

Cedar Ridge Single Malt Whiskey will be available at crdistillery.com and at the Swisher location starting May 3rd.
