Des Moines Warehouse Fire Causing Health Concerns
DES MOINES, Iowa - The warehouse fire that continues to burn in Des Moines is creating concerns about the amount of smoke surrounding homes in nearby neighborhoods.
The Polk County health department said the additional pollution creates a heightened risk for particular groups.
"We're focusing on elderly people and young people, young children with asthma might be a little more at risk if they're exposed to the air for an extended period of time, again the key is to avoid the area if you can," said Time Stein of the health department.
He said staying in air conditioning will be helpful as it will filter the smoke and keep people cool during the extreme heat.
