DES MOINES, Iowa Des Moines police released the identity of a woman found dead in an apartment on Monday.

Police said Cynthia Rouse's, 47, death is considered suspicious and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Police said detectives worked late into the evening and their investigation continues Tuesday.

Rouse was found dead inside an apartment at 1050 21st St. about 9 a.m. Interviews of friends and neighbors were conducted.

A police crime scene investigation team was also called to the home.

"Based on things that we found there and the way the scene looked, we classified this as suspicious and the crime scene unit was called out as well as the detectives," said Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Steve Woody.

A neighbor told KCCI-TV that the woman was seen on Sunday. They said she was middle-aged, and always nice and talkative. Another neighbor said it was a shock to see so many police cars in the normally quiet area.

"Scary,it is. Because I've never experienced this in this neighborhood. I've been here probably six months and this is the first time I hear of something like this going on around here," said Edgar Salazar.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call the Detective Bureau at 515-283-4869.
