DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines police are investigating a fatal stabbing reported early Thursday.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Cynthia Donahue said police received a 911 call about the stabbing inside apartment No. 2 at 1908 7th Street just about 2:40 a.m.

When officers arrived they found a man dead inside the apartment. He was later identified as Amyn Brown, 34.

Police said they took a woman into custody as a person of interest in connection with the case.

She was identified as Tyshar Mosley, 25. Police said Mosley and Brown both lived in the apartment. Brown was Mosley's boyfriend, Donahue said.

Donahue said two young children were inside the apartment when the stabbing happened. They are being cared for by the Department of Human Services.

Police said the investigation has determined there was a domestic disturbance occurring prior to the stabbing. Investigators are still determining exactly what happened.
