DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Officials in Des Moines are offering free bus rides during the romantic evening hours of Valentine's Day.

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, also known as DART, says people on all local routes can ride the bus for free Friday night. The free rides on "DART Date Night" will be available from 5 p.m. until final stops around 11:40 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to post photos of their dates on the bus through social media. Some participants can win prizes.

Marketing Director Kirstin Baer-Harding says the promotion is aimed at showing people that riding the bus is not just about getting to work. She says it's also about having fun.

DART provides service in Polk County.
