Democrat Braley Easily Leads in Fundraising
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Braley appears to have a sizable fundraising lead over Republicans seeking to face him in next year's general election.
Financial reports due to the federal government Tuesday show Braley raised about $900,000 between July and September.
The congressman from Waterloo is the only Democrat seeking the seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Harkin. At least six Republicans are vying for the nomination.
Among Republicans, state Sen. Joni Ernst says she has raised $252,000 during the quarter. David Young, a former aide to Sen. Chuck Grassley, says he's collected $112,000. Sioux City radio talk show host Sam Clovis announced he'd received $75,000 in contributions. Former U.S. Attorney Matt Whitaker has raised $104,555.
The partial government shutdown will likely delay when campaign filings are available online.
