Deaths Trial of Des Moines Doctor Delayed Again
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A manslaughter trial has been delayed again for a former Des Moines doctor accused of improperly prescribing painkillers to patients.
The Des Moines Register reports that the trial of Dr. Daniel Baldi has been pushed back to April 4 at the request of the prosecution. It had been scheduled for Feb. 3, two months later than the original trial date of Dec. 2.
Prosecutors say Baldi prescribed large amounts of narcotic painkillers to patients including Paul Gray, founder of the band Slipknot, who died in 2010. Baldi is charged with 10 counts of involuntary manslaughter.
Baldi's lawyers say his patients either took more of their medications than prescribed or took other drugs along with them.
