TAMA, Iowa - Early Thursday morning officials released more information about a homicide investigation in Tama.
At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at 104 Harmon Street in Tama when they found a woman who was deceased. Early Thursday morning, authorities identified the woman as Kerry O'Clair-Jefferson, 32.
Authorities are trying to determine how O'Clair-Jefferson died.
“The nature of the injury is in question and we’ll find that out from a forensic pathologist in Ankeny,” said Dr. Dennis Mallory, Tama County’s medical examiner. Mallory said he expected that to happen Thursday morning.
According to Tama police, O'Clair-Jefferson did not live at the home, but was a friend staying with the family who lived there. Tama Police Chief Jeff Filloon said authorities are not searching for a suspect, but said Ginger Jefferson, 57, of Toledo was in custody as a material witness. On Wednesday authorities said they had two witnesses in custody, but in the update Thursday morning did not say what happened to that second witness.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is leading the investigation. DCI agents and crime scene specialists were at the home Wednesday night to collect evidence inside.
