DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - The city of Davenport has paid nearly $170,000 to 59 customers who filed claims over sewer backups into their houses after a heavy rain event last spring.
The Quad-City Times reports that the average payment to each claimant came to about $2,880.
The city still faces pending lawsuits from some property owners over the sewer backups.
The number of claims following the heavy rains last spring led the city to create a reimbursement program that added $2 per quarter to residential sewer customers' bills. The fee would create about $200,000 per year in revenue.
