DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Davenport police say an officer shot a man after responding to a burglary report.

The Quad-City Times reports the shooting happened Thursday morning after police responded to a report of someone breaking into two garages, then got another report of a man sleeping in a resident's car.

Davenport Police Maj. Don Schaeffer says officers encountered the man in an alley.

Two officers apprehended him and as one officer frisked him on the ground, he found a gun.

The officer yelled for the man to not move, but he started running in the alley. He allegedly reached for his gun, prompting an officer to fire several shots.

The man, whose name wasn't released, was shot. He was taken to a hospital, where his condition wasn't available.

The officers weren't injured.
