CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Sunday is often the day for racing -- ask any Nascar fan. But, for the kids, the Pinewood Derby offers no left turns but still the satisfaction of being the fastest.

At the IBEW Local 405 Hall on Wiley Boulevard SW, some of the Hawkeye Area Council Cub Scouts took to the track -- keeping their rides under the mandatory 5 ounces. From 1st grade through 5th grade, these Madison Elementary scouts were graded on speed -- but also creativity.

"They get the kit around Christmas time. They can design it anyway they want. They can and then just paint it and whatever design they like is what they want to do," Jim Gieseman, Club Master Pack 88 said.

The Cub Master says the kids learn all about craftsmanship and competition.
