Crime Victims Gather for Candlelight Vigil
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Crime victims and survivors gathered Friday night in Cedar Rapids to honor the memories of lost loved ones.
The Survivors Program at Horizons sponsored the candlelight vigil to commemorate progress made in advancing victims' rights. It's also so people like Cathy McKay and Emilia Roberts can meet with others who understand what they're going through.
McKay lost a daughter and Roberts a mother when Sarah McKay's boyfriend murdered her in 2010.
"It helps a great deal to know that you're not alone. That these other people have felt the same way. That they miss their loved ones and they want to have people remember them, too," said McKay.
The Survivors Program provides support and resources for family and friends of homicide victims.
