Fire Damages Downtown Mount Pleasant Businesses, Apartments

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - A massive fire damaged a building in downtown Mt. Pleasant early Tuesday morning. The fire was first spotted and reported by a volunteer firefighter on his way to work at about 6:10 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found flames coming from a second floor apartment unit. The fire spread to the vacant third floor which also sustained considerable damage. Two businesses on the first floor damage.

No one inside the building at the time of the fire was injured. The chief and the fire marshal are still investigating the cause of the fire. The New London Fire Department also assisted in putting out the fire.
