URBANA, Iowa - Fire heavily damaged a home in the Benton County community of Urbana this evening.

That fire started just before 4 this afternoon at 606 Hope Avenue on Urbana’s west side.

Firefighters say no one was home when the fire started so there was no concern of rescuing anyone inside a burning building.

Denise McCarthy is the owner and was on her way home from work when she got the call her house was on fire.

The heaviest damage appeared to be in the upstairs bedroom where the fire vented.

Firefighters can’t say yet that’s where the fire started.

While there isn’t an official cause, the owner says one possibility to investigate is whether a lightning strike earlier might have started the fire.

Although no one was hurt in the fire and the owner is grateful, firefighters were able to save three cats.
