IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City officials say the public should expect to see smoke in the air as a crew begins to clean up debris following a fire at the city's landfill earlier this summer.

A release from Iowa City's public works department said Monday that the work will include uncovering and disposing of ash and debris leftover from a fire that started at the landfill at the end of May. Officials said this process may uncover material that is still smoldering, sending smoke into the air.

Any smoldering materials will be extinguished as they are encountered, the release said.

The clean up process is expected to take two months.
