CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in a crash that injured a policeman early Sunday morning.

The crash happened about 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 11th Street W in Cedar Rapids. A driver was traveling west on 1st Avenue when he or she crossed the center line and hit a Cedar Rapids Police Squad car.

Both drivers were treated at Cedar Rapids hospitals for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries and have been released.

The area was blocked off while police investigated the crash. Police were on the scene for hours and believe the intersection should be back to normal by 6 a.m. Sunday.

Officers are now waiting for results of a toxicology test to determine if alcohol is the reason for the crash. Charges are pending against the other driver.
