LINN COUNTY, Iowa - One person was killed and another hurt in a two-car crash on Highway 1 just south of Mount Vernon Friday morning.

According to a news release, Linn County sheriff's deputies and other emergency workers were called to the crash just after 6 a.m. Friday. Reports indicate a northbound vehicle crossed the center line of Highway 1 and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Diana Marie Coultas, 46, of Lisbon.

Coultas was taken by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with what officials said were non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. That driver's name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The accident remains under investigation.
