CENTER POINT, Iowa - One person was injured when a car crossed the median Tuesday morning and struck a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 380.

The crash happened around 11:40 a.m. near mile marker 37, just north of Center Point. An Iowa State Patrol trooper on the scene said a southbound van went off the roadway, through the median and collided with the back end of a semi’s flatbed trailer.

The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of the van, Rob Loftus, 22, was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The vehicle wound up in the east ditch, mangled from the impact. Damage to the semi trailer left it stalled in the middle of the northbound lanes, blocking traffic. A second northbound semi ran off the road and into the snowy median.

Authorities were detouring traffic off I-380 at the Center Point exit, through the town and north to Urbana.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
