By Adam Carros

WASHINGTON, Iowa -- The Iowa Supreme Court denied the appeal for a Washington County man convicted of killing his wife because she backed into their garage door.

James Blum, 71, appealed his second-degree murder conviction claiming ineffective counsel.

Blum is serving a 50 year sentence for killing his wife, 67 year-old Patricia Blum, in 2010. Blum smothered Patricia on their couch after she told him she had backed her car into the garage door.
