County Dedicates Mary Lundby Bridge Over Wapsi River

LINN COUNTY, Iowa - Ken Peckosh and Shirley Peckosh, both of Robins, strolled across the Mary Lundby Bridge at Pinicon Ridge Park minutes after the park’s formal dedication Friday afternoon.

The bridge, about 200 feet long, spans the Wapsipinicon River to connect the park’s campground on the river’s east bank to the main park area on the west side.

The bridge is named for longtime State Sen. Mary Lundby of Marion, who died in 2008. Before her death, Lundby had landed $500,000 in state funding for the $1.7 million project. The balance came from the county’s capital fund and an appropriation from the state i-JOBS fund.

“She would have loved this,” said Ken Peckosh, who said he and his wife were good friends of Lundby.
