CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Thin Mints, Caramel Delights, Peanut Butter Patties -- just a few of the top selling Girl Scout Cookies that people spend all year yearning.
The wait is now over, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois start selling cookies Saturday, Feb. 8.
In addition to the long time favorites, there are two new cookies available this year. The Cranberry Citrus Crisp, which the Girl Scouts tout as a healthy option, is a whole grain, citrus flavored cookie with bits of cranberry. Four cookies comes in at 150 calories.
The other new option is a gluten free chocolate chip shortbread, which is part of a pilot program. Girl Scouts are testing out the market for the gluten free cookie, which means it is available in limited quantities and only some girls will be selling them. If you can't find a Girl Scout in your area selling the gluten free cookie, you can call the council office at 1-800-798-0833. Gluten free cookies cost $5 per package, whereas the traditional cookies are selling for $3.50.
If a Girl Scout doesn't come knocking on your door, you can find them in front of area stores. There is also a Girl Scout Cookie Finder app, which can help you find the nearest booth. Girl Scout Cookies will be on sale until March 16.
