Feds to Drop Petition Against Misty Morrissey

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A hearing for a Waterloo woman on a federal supervised release violation set for Wednesday morning in Cedar Rapids was cancelled because prosecutors changed their mind about revoking her supervised release.

A prosecutor filed a document under seal Wednesday seeking to dismiss the petition.

Misty Cook-Morrissey was in the courthouse Wednesday before she knew the hearing was cancelled.

Cook-Morrissey is the mother of Lyric Cook, the 11-year-old who disappeared with her cousin near Meyers Lake in Evansdale July 13. The family marked a four month anniversary of the disappearance Tuesday night.

Cook-Morrissey pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiring to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine in 2003. She spent four years in federal prison and was also given five years of supervised release. Federal Judge Linda Reade ordered Cook-Morrissey to serve an additional five months in custody and another year of supervised release last year for unspecified violations.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Deegan and Cook-Morrissey's attorney did not comment on why the hearing was cancelled.
