Construction to Begin on Southwest Cedar Rapids Road

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Construction work starting next week in Cedar Rapids will mean detours until next fall on one southwest side street.

The city plans to close 76th Avenue Southwest from Edgewood Road to 18th Street beginning Wednesday. That closing could last until sometime this fall.

Work on 76th Avenue in front of the College Community School district will include medians and other changes. The contractor can't close the road in front of Prairie High School until the end of classes. City engineers say there are also incentives to encourage the contractor to finish here before school starts in the fall.
