DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - State officials say a computer theft is posing a risk to the personal information of Iowa residents who participate in the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship's Horse and Dog Breeding Program.
The program provides financial awards to breeders of successful Iowa born racing greyhounds and racehorses at the close of each racing season.
Department officials say someone broke into the state vehicle used by an employee of the program some time Thursday in Des Moines and stole the computer.
Although the computer had an encryption protection, there is concern that unauthorized access could be gained to the names, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers of more than 3,000 Iowans who participate program.
