Community Christmas Gathering Lights 25 Trees

By Katie Stinson

MARION, Iowa - People young and old came together for a "Community Christmas" celebration in Marion, Wednesday. People gathered at Summit Pointe Senior Living Community where more than 25 Christmas trees were decorated and lit.

Church youth groups from Cedar Rapids and Marion, along with the retirement home residents decorated their own ornaments then placed them onto the trees. Several children and youth choirs added to the merriment as they sang holiday carols. One organizer say this event is especially meaningful to the residents this season.

"With the cold weather are unable to get out and enjoy the holiday throughout the communities, so we brought the community to them without having to go to the community," David Wendell, the event organizer said.

People also learned about the history and customs of Christmas trees all over the world. More than 10,000 lights were strung on trees at the event.
