by Katie Wiedemann, Reporter
DUBUQUE, Iowa - A nationally known comedian is in Dubuque attempting to Break a world record for the longest stand up comedy routine. David Scott who goes by the stage name "Midnight Swinger" hopes to perform for 41 hours straight.
While alone on the stage with nothing but a chair and microphone, no topic is off limits. Midnight Swinger jokes about issues from childbirth, babies, current events and politics.
The challenge comes with some pretty strict rules. Midnight Swinger must stay inside a marked yellow box on stage so judges from Guinness Book can keep an eye on him through a web-cam.
He is allowed a 5 minutes break once per hour, but can only repeat a joke once every four hours.
Midnight Swinger said, "I just want to survive this right now. If I can survive this. I believe I can survive an audit but the I.R.S. "
There must be at least 10 people in the audience at all times.
Savannah Gerlock was there for the start of the show.
Gerlock said, "I wanted to be part of history actually. I just kind of like. I was there!" "
Midnight Swinger finds a joke directed at everyone in the audience. Even the local news crews.
Midnight Swinger joked, "There's Joe Winters at the Barbeque Round Up. What's the Weather going to be like Joe? I don't know but these ribs are good. "
