Coffee Sleeves Warn About Signs of Heart Disease

By Ellen Kurt

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids is teaming up with area coffee shops to raise awareness around two leading causes of death in the U.S.

The hospital has created special coffee cup sleeves that will be used at Coffeesmiths, Brewed Awakenings and Blue Strawberry. The sleeves list the warning signs of heart disease and stroke. It is the first time that the hospital has used the drink holders and they hope to reach a new demographic with the project.

"Each year we always try to do something special for heart month and stroke month, and this is what we had picked this year. We're really kind of excited about his one, because I think it hits a group that we haven't really hit before," Peg Bradke, St. Luke's Hospital Vice President, said.

The hospital has also created mirror hangers with similar information. They will place these in the patients' cars that use their valet service.
