CLIVE, Iowa (AP) - Clive is asking to leave a regional program that provides specialized emergency services.
The Des Moines Register says the program was established about seven years ago between 17 central Iowa cities and three counties. They wanted to be better prepared in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The program covers specialized emergency services, such as a bomb squad.
West Des Moines and Urbandale opted out of the program in 2013. Clive's contract runs through June next year, so it is asking for a release.
The Des Moines City Council will discuss the matter at its meeting Monday.
Clive Mayor Scott Cirksena says that because of Clive's close working relationship and shared dispatch with West Des Moines and Urbandale, it makes sense for Clive to leave the program.
