Clinton Woman Gets 21 Months for Fraud
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Clinton woman who ran an accounting business has been sentenced to 21 months in prison on charges that she embezzled $332,000 from a client.
Regina Jimenez was also ordered to pay the money back and spend a year on supervised release during last week's sentencing in front of U.S. District Judge Stephanie Rose.
The 60-year-old Jimenez had been found guilty of two counts of filing false tax returns.
Federal prosecutors say she operated AA Accounting and Tax Services in Clinton from 2007 to 2011, and used the business to steal $332,000 from a client who believed she would use the money to pay the client's taxes. Jimenez instead used the money to gamble, and did not report the funds on her tax returns as income.
