WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - The Waterloo City Council has voted to buy another vacant downtown building.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the building along the west bank of the Cedar River over the years has housed bars, a meat market, music store and flea market. The purchase price was $102,000.

The city has been buying downtown properties for projects that included apartments, the Cedar Valley SportsPlex and the RiverLoop Expo and Public Market. Others properties have been acquired without a particular project in mind.

Community Planning and Development Director Noel Anderson told the newspaper that the city didn't have specific plans for its latest purchase. He says the building likely will be razed, but there's no hurry to do so.
