Child Shot at Shooting Range Recovering, No Charges Filed

  • Photo
WATERLOO, Iowa - An 8-year-old boy who was shot in the head at a shooting range last month is improving, according to Black Hawk County Sheriff's Captain Rick Abben.

Abben said he learned earlier this week that doctors had removed David Young's breathing tube. Young was shot in the head after his 5-year-old sister pulled the trigger on a .22 caliber rifle at the Black Hawk Park shooting range on October 29.

Abben says the boy walked in front of the line of fire at the range. He said the little girl was with her mother's boyfriend when it happened and that he was holding the rifle.

A Black Hawk County Attorney has reviewed the case and decided it will not file any charges in connection with the shooting.
